A new strain of Covid appeared last September, possibly in Kent, London. It has 17 different mutations or amino acid changes in the structure of the virus. The most dangerous mutation is called N5O1Y and is the one that could make the virus more contagious up to a 70% increase making it more transmissible. This was the explanation given by John Campbell, a British scientist. This virus had a rate of increase in London of 25% last November but has reached 70% now and is spreading to other parts of the UK. The scientist affirms that this virus is already active in other parts of Europe because it has been for a long time in London, a city visited by thousands of tourists. The UK is now cut off from Europe because of this new Covid strain. A growing number of countries including Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Poland, Austria, Italy and Bulgaria have banned travel from the UK. Thousands of travellers had to cancel the Christmas holidays. The British government has imposed a lockdown in London and surrounding areas. Meanwhile, there is a possibility that Britain will ask the EU for an extension of the Brexit negotiations due to the problems arise by the new mutation N5O1Y.
