"Poetic Dream" is a production made in tribute to the Russian poets: Iosif Brodsky, Marina Tsvetaeva and Anna Akhmatova. The work was made especially for the tour done by Irina Poznyak and her dance group in Germany. This Russian tradition of romance, artistic feeling in song, was developed in the imperial Russia and brought with it a gypsy flavor. Later it was manifested in two main streams: one of elitist fashion which operates Italianate influences the songs of "living romance" type, and a second called "cruel romance" representing themes such as romantic courtship rejection of pain, 'illegal love', suicide. Possibly the latter genre began the song (chanson) Russian.
Irina Pozniak and his dance group, tells a story in that tradition that demands the interpreter to produce its own songs. Irina Pozniak and her exquisite group of artists represent, in this work, the story of a ship full of Russian emigrants who leave the motherland after the revolution. This would mean that they would leave in oblivion, spirituality and intelligence. It occurs the tragedy of this story and the ship sanks, and few, among them, a child who was wounded, survived. They want to return home. In that scenary of bloody pain, the protagonist, Irina Poznyak appears, symbolizing Russia, and sings fairy tales to the beauty and pain. Thus coninuo the story that shows the rebirth of Russia, this revival is obvious in the lyrics and music written by Irina Poznyak herself, a beautiful, versatile and talented artist that lives in the very city once lived Dala Dalí, wife, agent and muse, of the great artist Salvador Dali.
Irina Poznnyak, and her group of dancers show in this work: spirituality, traditions and peaceful coexistence of all nationalities occupying the great Russian territory. Especially with the songs "A Fairer Russia" and "A Dream Come True". The initial tragedy leads to harmony. In the artistic expressions are a synthesis of dance, Tatar cultural identity, aesthetics of fine quality and even Scottish bagpipes. The "Islander" song was composed with the verses of Marina Tsvetaeva, renowned Russian poet, born in Moscow, who lost her daughter in a Russian orphanage because of the famine suffered by the population during the early years of the revolution. Marina Tsvetaeva was critical of the Soviet system, however, had great admiration for Alexander Blok who with his poem "The Twelve" had a period of infatuation with the revolution.
Jose Carlos Mariategui, famous Peruvian thinker, in his essay "The destiino of North America" also recognizes this great poet born in St Piterburgo. Irina Poznyak, artist of fine sensibility was surely influenced by the work of Marina Tsvetaeva and other great representatives of Russian literature, the same way she was also influenced by Federico Garcia Lorca. Irina sings about the beauty and pain, but also expresses a cultural carnival party where music, movement and colour are combined tocreate a poetic space that captivates her audience with elements of passion.
A modern way of being Romani and defend the cultural values that otherwise would be buried, disappeared by the mass culture imposed on us by the system of globalization.
In an essay I wrote for the University of Glasgow I argued that one of the contributing factors to the fall of the Soviet system was the centralism and lack of effective recognition of the large number of cultural expressions throughout this great country. Expressions of folklore and other cultural manifestations. This is why I applaud the staging of this work that has great significance for historical rectification. I congratulate Irina Pozniak, and her group of dancers that staged "The Poetic Dream". This has shown that it is worthy going to see performing arts, Marina Tsvetaeva is buried close to Kazan, in a place called Yelabuga. Surely from there She is listening to these talented artists that today, from Kazan, honour her poetry.
