Robert Philip's Legacy.

Jorge Aliaga en Linktown, Kirkcaldy

Robert Philip (1751- 1828)  owned spinning, bleaching and dye works in Linktown and left a large legacy in his will for the purpose of building four schools to provide education to the poorer children in Linktown. He is buried at the Old Kirk, Kirk Wynd, Kirkcaldy.

The Philip School in Linktown opened in 1833 and was located on the east side of Links Street. A clock was erected at the entrance and the same clock stands on the original site today.

The Philip School was closed in 1890 and the building demolished in 1966. The new Philip School was built in 1962.  Currently Society (previously Oscars) in Charlotte Street was built as a Philip School.
