Jorge Aliaga Cacho: short biography

Jorge Aliaga Cacho in Stansted, England

Jorge Aliaga Cacho was born in Lima, Peru. He studied primary school at the "República de Bolivia 405" school and secondary school at the Leoncio Prado Military College, where the Peruvian Nobel Prize winner, Mario Vargas Llosa, also studied.
In 1973, Jorge Aliaga Cacho represented Peruvian youth at the X World Youth Festival, held in Germany. In 1975, he was elected President of the Association of Workers of the National Institute of Culture. In 1981, he traveled to Scotland. There he works at the Edinburgh College of Art. In 1986, he organizes the cultural institution (Peña Jananti).
That same year he was elected president of the Peruvian-Scottish Friendship Society.
In 1990 he embarked on academic studies in Scotland. He studied at the University of Glasgow where he graduated with honors, acquiring a Master of Arts, specializing in Social Sciences (Sociology and Latin American Studies).
He then did doctoral studies at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. There he specialized in the Literature of the Río La Plata and Translation Methodology. Later, he studied Pedagogy at the University of Edinburgh, where he obtained the Postgraduate Certificate in Education. Jorge Aliaga Cacho was a professor at Telford College and, at West Lothian College, in Scotland. He taught Spanish at Whithburn Academy, Deans Community High School, and at the prestigious George Heriot's in Edinburgh, an educational institution that would inspire J K Rowland to write his ''Harry Potter''.
Jorge Aliaga Cacho's contribution to British culture has been recognized by the Hispanic Council and the Luso-Brazilian Council of London and by the plastic work, by the London artist, Yinka Shonibare, entitled: ''The British Library''. In it appear the names of the immigrants who have contributed to the culture of the United Kingdom. The permanent exhibition is mounted in the prestigious TATE GALLERY, in London.
Jorge Aliaga Cacho lives between Scotland and Peru.
