The International Day of Peace was celebrated by the United Nations General Assembly for the first time in 1982. Later, in 2001, the General Assembly voted unanimously to designate that Day as a period of non-violence and ceasefire.
In this corridor for peace appears two years earlier, in 1999, The International Forum for the Literature and Culture of Peace, IFLAC for short,
whose main objectives are the promotion of peace and mutual respect among the peoples and nations of the world and social, cultural and religious tolerance.
IFLAC is a voluntary association founded and directed by the Egyptian-born Israeli writer Eda Aharoni.
Today I would like to encourage governments around the world to eliminate violence in all its forms, as violence is not only unleashed through the war itself, but also through social injustice.
That is why we have to organize researchers, writers, intellectuals and friends of literature, of the culture of peace, as proposed by IFLAC to promote peace and social justice.
I wish you all a positive Peace Day Celebration.
